Maga’Låhi
Ke’puha was a brave leader.
He
was noted by Father San Vitores as a Chief who had “brought ruins to many
priests and soldiers” during the war.
The
young Ke’puha never welcomed the Spaniards, always rejecting their advice and
doctrine.
Their
threats never affected him.
He
fought in many battles and was accused for the death of Diego Bazan of Mexico
(San Vitores’ personal companion and messenger) in 1671.
Ke’puha
was later found dead at his plantation in April 1672.
The
Spaniards mocked his death as “dry wood for the eternal fire of hell.”
Shortly
after his demise, his home was confiscated by the Spaniards.
It
was also found that it was a brave young Uli’tao by the name of Alulu (Ayuyu?)
who fought with the Diego Bazan and defeated him.
