Maga’Låhi Åhgao - Guåhan

Maga’Låhi Åhgao was a brave leader who had been a veteran in previous battles with the Spaniards.

It is written that on May 13, 1672 while involved in peace negotiations, he, along with Maga’Låhi Huråo and a blind elder, met with several priests and about 27 Spanish soldiers at the home of one of the priests.

Suddenly, without provocation, the soldiers attacked the three.  Huråo, whose back was turned, and the elderly blind elder were shot and killed on the spot, while Chief Åhgao “defended himself for a long time with a small adze that he carried while withdrawing toward the nearby river where he escaped.”

Maga’Låhi Åhgao’s ultimate fate during the CHamoru/Spanish War was never recorded.
