Hafa Adai! My name is Jesse Laguana and I am from the island of Guam. I am a Military Veteran who served in the Guam Air National Guard and the United States Marine Corps. A brief history regarding my health. In 2005 I was diagnosed of having a congestive heart failure along with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and an irregular heart beat (afib). Through the years I have battled and taken many medications to help with these health issues But, in 2010 and 2011 my heart condition worsen and I was referred to St. Luke's Medical Hospital in the Philippines to have stents placed in my heart to help with blockages in the arteries. However in the middle part of 2011, I experienced more congetive heart failures, shortness of breath, severe abdominal and severe chest pains. I was in and out of the local hopital when finally I was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Shortly, thereafter I was referred by our local VA to Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. While I was there, I was seen by a heart specialist from Queen's Medical Center. It was then that I was told that I needed an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) to be placed in my heart. After my return from Tripler, things started to look and feel better, but shortly again I started to feel very weak, my irregular heartbeat was getting worse again and I started to feel a severe abdominal pain on my right side. I visited my VA primary doctor and a CT scan was scheduled to see what was causing my abdominal pain. It was then that a black mass covering part of my liver was discovered. A liver biopsy was performed at the Guam Radiology Consultants and the sample tissue was sent off to Hawaii for testing. A week later the results came back and I was informed by an Oncologist that I have Hepatocellular Carcinoma (liver cancer). According to medical experts the usual outcome is poor, because only 10-20% of hepatocelluar carcinomas can be removed completely using surgery. If the cancer cannot be completely removed, the disease is usually fatal within 3-6 months. However, survival can vary, and occasionally people will survive much longer than 6 months. Having to deal and manage my other health issues, this (liver cancer) really hit me the hardest! I have been scheduled for a liver cancer consultation at Tripler Army Medical Center on April 15, 2013 and it is then that I will know when my liver surgery will take place. I have no medical insurance except my VA which does not really cover much. My estimated length of stay depending on the outcome of the surgery is about 1 month. My wife will be escorting me. She has been very supportive throughout the years despite all my health issues. With April 15, 2013 just around the corner, we just do not have the financial funds to be in Hawaii for 1 month. And, this is why I am humbly seeking your warm and kind donation in helping my wife and I during this medical crisis. Any sort of donation and help will truly be appreciated. All of the funds raised will help us out with lodging, food and medications not covered by the VA. It is with your support that my wife and I will make it through this ordeal. I want to win this battle. And, I humbly ask that you please join me! Together we can win, but I do need your help and support! Prayers are accepted! Thank you and God bless all of you for taking the opportunity to read this!
