San Diego is where the Chamorro action is... this past week…
 
 
>>Wed, June 26 and Thurs, June 27,the Marianas Golfers Association of SD hosted the 32nd annual HAFA ADAI Golf Classic…150 golfers from Guam, Okinawa and throughout the U.S., their families, friends attended the tournament, picnic, and banquet. Kudos to Tony Treltas, MGASD President and Cessa Naputi ,Tournament Director and everyone who participated in this successful event.
 
 
>>Fri, June 28. Miss Pacific Islander San Diego 2013 Scholarship Pageant…over 250 attendees…What an entertaining and fun event with KiKi and Hula emceeing. Chamorros were well represented… Meaghan Shyla Iwaleilani Zuttermeister,representing Hawaai, was crowned Miss PIFA 2013. One of the 3 judges was Robert Santos (Balitres-Dededo) our very own Channel 10 News weathercaster. Two of our beautiful young ladies competing …. Candace Terrirose Borja is the granddaughter of Phillip and Terry Cruz Borja, a very talented ukulele player and singer…Keiana Jolynn Santos Castro, is the granddaughter of Kelley and Agie Borja Santos. Keiana’s mom, Joleen, was the 1994 SDGC, Inc. Liberation Queen. Also attending the pageant, Miss Heiva San Diego (Ultimate Tahitian Dancer), Raquel Maanao Taitingfong, daughter of Michael and Gina M (former SDGC, Inc. Liberation Queen)Taitingfong, and granddaughter of Grace Sablan (Tony) Cruz and the late Greg Maanao…and the late John and Josefa Castro Taitingfong. Our 2012 SDGC, Inc. Liberation Queen Julia Naputi Rivera, was a special invite to the event…She is the granddaughter of Kin and Julia Naputi and the great granddaughter of Matilde Santos.
 
 
>>Sat. June 29…SDGC, Inc. 60th Liberation Coronation Ball. Outgoing Queen Julia Naputi Rivera, waved at the crowd during her final walk as the Guam Club Queen. Queen Ashley Ulloa Szuch, Royal Princess Kaylen Nauta Griffin and Princess Heather Dione Arceo were the belles of the Ball. Their rendition of "Chamorrita Girl" was a breath of fresh air...Also honored at the event was Lou Hum, one of our Guam Liberators. SDGC Inc President Bataik Cruz, awarded four Club members for their exemplary service to the Club…Tillie Santos, Lee Ann Cruz, Ron Baza, and Gene Mendiola… Applaud our Liberation Chairperson Debbie Dimla, our SDGC, Inc. VP, and her committee for organizing an elegant affair. For the first time in many years, the top raffle prizes were won by locals…our ardent club members and supporters. Guest entertainers included a duet by Julia Rivera and friend, Johnny Island (Pangelinan)...Lots of Cha Cha /jitterbug dancing with Ben Maga Lahi Lizama deejaying and the Royal T’s playing live and keeping the dancers rocking and rolling.

Coronado Independence Day Parade at 10 a.m. Our Stateside Islander Crew will be featured on a float traversing Orange Ave. Chamorros—Ben Benavente “Chedo”, Joe Cruz “Bakuling” Hilgeman, and Ben Maga Lahi Lizama, and Lee Palefa, Samoan drummer will be rocking out Island Tunes.
 
 
ü Sunday, July 7-Sons & Daughters of Guam Club, Inc—Chamorro Leadership Council meeting at 12 noon, and General Assembly at 2 p.m. Potluck fan.
 
 
ü Saturday, July 13-Agat/CNMI Mt. Carmel Fiesta in Chula Vista.
