Friends,
Provided below are the details for Brigadier
General (Retired, USMC) and former Congressman Ben Blaz.

12:30PM-3:00PM and 5:00PM-8:00PM
The Guam Congressional Office will be providing

Tun Ben's Parish Priest will be saying a rosary
at 1pm and we are asking for Guam Society members to be present to sing
Chamorro hymns after the rosary. If you are able to make it and to join in as
part of the choir, please send us a reply to this email. If you are unable to make the afternoon
viewing, we will also be singing during the evening viewing (at 6:15pm) and ask
that you join us in song to remember Tun Ben and all that he has done for our
people, our island, and our country.
Funeral Mass/Funeral:
DATE:
Tuesday, February 25, 2014
LOCATION:
Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer, Arlington, VA 22211
TIME:
Mass will be said at 8:30AM.
Since this is a workday, please clear the Fort Myer/Joint Base Mayer
Hatfield Gate at South Washington Blvd and 2nd Street South by 7:45AM. The Fort Myer Chapel has asked that all
attending the mass and the funeral be seated by 8:25AM. We ask that you not be late so as not to
delay the mass schedule for Tun Ben. Tun
Ben's Eulogy will begin promptly at 8:30AM followed by the mass.
The Blaz Family has asked that the Guam Society
and its members sing at the funeral as well.
We hope that you will take some time to dispidi (say Farewell to) Tun
Ben in our Chamorro Tradition.
After the mass, pall bearers will escort the
casket and Tun Ben will be brought by horse and carriage to his burial site in
Arlington National Cemetery. Attendees
will be able to follow on foot or in their vehicles. For those who plan to walk, the procession
could be a mile in length, so please plan accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE:
All vehicle occupants will be required to present a photo ID upon entry
to the Fort Myer military installation. You will need to have current vehicle
registration and your vehicle may need to undergo additional security screening
prior to entry into the installation.
Upon showing your ID, drivers should notify the gate guards that they
are attending General Blaz's funeral.
Again, because this is a normal workday, entry into the installation may
take time, so please come early -- recommend that you are at the gate by 7AM.
If you have relatives or friends who are coming
from out of town, they will be able to access the base via taxi -- please let
them know to inform the cab drivers that they will need to go all the way past
the gate as some cab drivers/companies will not take you beyond the Fort Myer
gate entrance.
Additional information will be posted on the
Guam Society website.
As a reminder, the family has requested that in
lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association
(alz.org). Although Tun Ben did not have
Alzheimer's, his wife, Tan Ann did as did her father.
The Guam Society would like to encourage you to
please take time to say farewell to someone who has represented our people and
our island so well both as a member of Congress and as a member of the United
States Armed Forces.
Si Yu'us Ma'ase for Your Support.
Senseramente,
Mike Blas
