Afanelos,
We've
recently launched a series of Public Service Announcements as part of our
efforts to inform our community about the potential impacts of the proposed
military buildup.
Approximately
4,000 acres of our land and sea are at risk of being taken for use as an
enormous firing range complex. According to the SEIS, at the selected site,
more than 6.7 million bullets
will be fired every year. These bullets will disturb pristine coastline,
cultural sites and critical recovery habitat. Although Ritidian/Litekyan is
DOD’s “preferred alternative,” Pagat and Fena are 2 other areas that DOD is
still considering for the site of its firing range complex.
With your
generous donations, we've purchased airtime on local channels through June 17,
2014 to make sure that accurate information is available to our community
before the commenting period ends. The commenting period has been extended to
July 2, 2014. This gives us a few more days to get the word out but we can't do this without your help.
