UNO HIT is the dance
program that the Che'lu organization has sponsored since September 2013. We are learning from the fafana'gue, Heidi
Quenga, of the award winning Kutturan Chamoru dance group in Long Beach. We have had a consistent group of 30 of all ages,
learning our language, traditions and stories through dance. It's been so much fun. Some people may have seen us do a simple song
at the SDGC Veteran's Day Appreciation Luncheon.
Now we are preparing for
our first big public performance at the Chamorro Cultural Fest at Market Creek
Plaza on March 29, 2014 and are in need of costumes. With help from Heidi, we are able to provide
the mestisa dress, the ancient costume and various props and accessories
necessary for about $100 per dancer.
That's $3000 we need to raise in a month or less! These will belong to the kids and be used
many times over as they share our culture and dance with the wider community.
Thank you for letting our
community know that we could use their help to provide for this new San Diego
Chamorro dance group.
Donations can be made on
the Che'lu website at http://chelusd.org/unohit.html
or donors can contact me at 209 770-2007 to arrange delivery of their
sponsorship.
Donations can be also be
delivered to our Saturday morning workshops 10 - Noon at the Jacob's Center.
